🚦 My journey to becoming a pregnancy coach ... a lifelong fascination

From a very young age, I've been fascinated by pregnancies, births and babies.When I was 16 years old, I attended – together with a classmate – a lecture in Maastricht by the renowned midwife Beatrijs Smulders about vertical birthing and birthing stools. We were the youngest participants and the only females without a pregnant belly.The seed was planted: I wanted to become a midwife. Unfortunately, my curriculum at the time didn't allow for it …

🚧 A detour

Determined to pursue that path, I started a nursing training as a stepping stone to midwifery.But life took a different turn: I continued working in the hospital, got married, and became a mother myself.Later, I studied law alongside my job and became a university lecturer and researcher, specialized—how could it be otherwise—in health law and women's rights. My focus was onimproving the position of women, empowering them and strengthening their autonomy!

🎀 My first "birth coaching experience"

During my law studies, my best friend was pregnant with their second child. She asked me if I would like to be present at her birth. I found that incredibly special and felt so honored.On a beautiful November day, the day had come. My friend was calmly breathing through her contractions. At one point, she turned inward... not much later, she felt the urge to breathe her baby down, and a beautiful, beautiful babygirl, her daughter, was born.The midwife placed her on her mother's belly, and she began to "crawl" upward on her own... searching for her mother's breast and her first ‘meal’. It was a magical experience that deeply touched me…

After that experience, I realized again, I really love to guide women and their partners through this very special process. I delved into coaching during pregnancy and birth, and alsodiscovered HypnoBirthing®.The best part of my ‘work’ as a certified HypnoBirthing® instructor and pregnancy coach is supporting (expectant) parents in finding their own path, in confidence, relaxed, and with knowledge of their options. I guide them in making conscious choices and approaching the delivery and birth in peace and with strength.Every pregnancy is unique. Every birth is a transition, not only for the baby, but also for a woman into a mother, a man into a father (again or for the first time).
